Honkai: Star Rail vs. Genshin Impact - comparison of Hoyooverse games with the open world

Honkai: Star Rail-the coming step-by-step RPG with the open world from Hoyoverse. Being a continuation of the 3rd series Honkai Impact, it unites old and new characters and sends them on an innovative journey through the universe.

Since the game was first announced, the community has discovered many parallels between Honkai: Star Rail and its widely known precursor Genshin Impact, especially because of the similarity in graphics, user interface and game modes. We had the opportunity to personally test Trailblazing in the second closed beta testing of Honkai: Star Rail. Like long-standing players in Genshin, here is our comparison of two wonderful Hoyoverse games.

Graphic arts

Both games have an anime style, with fascinating landscapes and highly detailed characters and the environment. Although at first glance, the artistic style may seem similar, the Honkai graphics: Star Rail is more clear, with more obvious lines compared to the softer Genshin Impact style. The difference may be insignificant, but it was enough to explore the gerta space station and Yarilo-V much differently than to explore Tayvat.

The battle

The combat experience in these two games is significantly different. While Genshin Impact uses a more free Ruby and Ruby combat system, Honkai: Star Rail uses a classic step-by-step jerpg battle. As a result, each battle in Star Rail includes more boot screens and, as a rule, takes more time. Being step by step, he also greatly depends on the units of speed, which will probably be one of the most valuable characters in the game.

Both games use elements and shields, but they are differently built into the combat system. By mixing and comparing the elements, you can create reactions in Genshin Impact, which makes the battle more customizable. For example, this does not allow players to use the attack of the arsonist to break the hydraulic shield, since there are many other reactions that can be performed to destroy the hydraulic hydraulicity.

But in Honkai: Star Rail it is important to use elements against which enemies are weak, otherwise it becomes almost impossible to break their shields. Since all enemies have shields, this quirk is an inevitable aspect of the gameplay.

character development

The development of characters in two games is quite similar, with parallels that can make a system of improvements to Honkai: Star Rail to the familiar Genshin Impact players. For example, Genshin's Star Rail and Constellations offer skills to search for repeating characters.

Genshin’s weapon is replaced by light cones in Star Rail, but in fact the same thing-it depends on the class, and it can be increased and offered. Genshin’s Artifacts and Star Rail’s Relics-this is equipment that can be obtained from domains or cocoons. They offer installed bonuses, and players need to go through all the difficulties in order to get the right stands.

Finally, Genshin's talents are interpreted as traces in Star Rail. Of all the upgrades of upgrades, this is different, since talents are only upgrades of skills, while the tracks also improve statistics.

gameplay with the open world

Although both games are advertised as games with the open world, Genshin Impact seems to be a much more open world than Honkai: Star Rail. In Genshin, players can explore most of the teivat, just running a thin line between Monstadt and Liue and challenging thunder to illegally penetrate into the Inadzum. While some areas are blocked for quests, the fulfillment of preliminary requirements allows the players to move from point A to point B without passing through the portal (with very few exceptions).

Meanwhile, each zone in Honkai: Star Rail is divided by portals. As a result, it is impossible to move from one area of research to another, without causing a loading screen somewhere in the middle. The characters also cannot jump, which limits the possibilities of research.

Story

Honkai The story of Genshin Impact from the very beginning seems a little cleaner, because at the beginning of the game important plot points were established. Since everything happens in one world (Tayvat), history also flows much better and seems more interconnected.

On the contrary, the story of Honkai: Star Rail seems a little more fragmented. History begins at the gerta space station, where the pioneer awakens. But everything that happens at the space station is completely different from what is happening in the first world, Yarilo-V, which introduces a completely different plot. It seems that there is no connection between the side stories in the space station Gerth and Yarilo-V, which is why the general plot may seem a little incoherent.

Honkai: The plot of Star Rail is by no means good, especially since the closed beta version introduced only the main and side quests. As soon as the quests of the characters are released, we probably get much more information about the connections between different worlds, characters and relations in the universe.

Dialog

One of the charms of Honkai: Star Rail is a magnificent script and localization, especially dialogs. The Star Rail characters have much more chemistry than the Genshin Impact actors, and their interaction seems more organic. The spelling is smooth and read as real conversations, and the characters can be distinguished by the way they say (and text!). On the contrary, Genshin’s cast sometimes sounds unusual, and some dialogs are read as descriptions or scripts, and not as conversations.

The pioneer also has a more interesting personality (and more replicas!) Than the traveler whose dialogue versions were met by the ambiguous reaction of the Genshin Impact community. In addition to a more exciting scenario, Honkai dialogs: Star Rail are not based on the illusion of choice, since some solutions really affect the course of history. For example, in the quest where the hook is trying to sell at the auction, players can choose: immediately start the auction or increase their chances of earnings, helping a potential bid participant.

Last thoughts

Ultimately, despite the fact that between Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail there are some copied ideas, the experience of playing both games is not the same. Each game offers a completely different, but equally exciting story, unique combat systems and pretty characters that we can’t wait to meet again. A closed beta version was only a small glimpse of the fact that Honkai: Star Rail would fully offer that it may well be experience different from the charm of Genshin Impact.
