- Conclusion:
The trend of asymmetrical multiplayer games began six or seven years ago. Many publishers tried it, but only a few were really successful. Dead by Daylight started as one of the first games and the genre leader to this day. Genre representatives such as Evolve, Predator: Hunting Grounds or Friday the 13th The Game were also able to celebrate success for a short time, but did not prevail in the long run. Now there is a new challenger: Evil Dead - The Game. The horror franchise is no stranger to the gaming world, but no first-time title has been released since 2005. We have now looked at the current game in detail and sent a few demons back into the abyss with the help of the necronomicon. We had fun, even if it is still round in a few places.
new brand, known construct
After we had our fun with various killers in Dead by Daylight and now by heart Camp Crystal Lake, it is time for something new. With Evil Dead - The Game we can slip into the skin of Ash Williams again after a good 17 years and process demons into small wood with a chainsaw or a sawn -off shotgun. The fundamental structure is surprisingly little different from the genre reconception. On the one hand there are four classes of survivors. There are three different types of demon. There is also a skill stree overarching as well as for every character. In this way, skills and perks can be unlocked in order to either have better chances of survival as a survivor or to become even more powerful as a demon. In addition, your own character can be leveled up for the respective passage during a game. The makers of Evil Dead-The Game do not reinvent the bike, but give it a new coat of paint with the Evil-Dead brand.
Who? As? Where? What?
Before something happens in Evil Dead - The Game you have to play the tutorial. Before that, neither the single and multiplayer modes nor the missions can be tried out. Not everyone has to please, but it makes sense, because the game is a bit more complex than Dead by Daylight and otherwise explanations and tips are only distributed very sparingly. Instead of just throwing a few generators as a survivor to open the outcome or to disappear through a hatch as the last survivor. But even if you have completed the introduction, you will need a few games to find your way around. The most important thing is therefore a weapon, a few supplies and maybe a few items to protect you better. But you first have to search for all these things, just like your fellow campaigners. There is also a minimap. At first, it can be quite confusing with the endless icons. So first get an overview with the large card.
Fear as a constant companion
As a survivor, it is your first task to find three parts of a card. Supported, this reveals where you can find the Kandarian dagger and some pages of the magical book Necronomicon. If you have found both and sagged, the next icon will appear on the menu: the boss. You defeat this with the previously collected dagger. This is followed by the last task. Go to the Book of Necromomicon and defend it in front of the rushing opponent hordes for two minutes. Once that is done, you have won the round. Doesn't sound so complicated, but until all the processes sit and you play together as a team goes away.
In general, you should act as a team, because it is incredibly difficult to defend yourself against demons and at the same time solve all the necessary tasks. In addition to the demons, fear also plays a crucial role in this game. If this becomes too big, you are easy prey and can be perceived from afar by the player who controls evil. Fortunately, the fear level is reduced as soon as you are near a light source or are traveling in a group. Since the individual tasks are partly spatially apart, there are also cars anywhere that can be used. But be careful, such a petrol slingshers causes a lot of noise and the "bad" player is informed immediately. If you want to try to sneak over the card as undetected as possible, you should do without a car. Unfortunately, after a short time, there is a certain monotony, because it does not deviate from the course of the tasks. We are not given the freedom to decide how we want to survive.
Evil lurks everywhere
If you play evil, it is your goal to stop the survivors by all means. Of course, the area of responsibility is different and above all a little more strategic thinking is required. Hell energy is required to carry out any actions. Fortunately, it lies around everywhere. For example, traps can be laid and units and controllable bosses can be summoned. Even the “adoption” of individual demons, trees, cars and opposing players is possible. The latter of course only if the fear level is high enough. Of course that doesn't work forever. You can only take possession of someone as long as you have hell energy. But even that is enough to create great confusion between the survivors and possibly kill them. The developers have built in a really nice effect with the “scare” ability. If you can do this with a survivor, it is surprised with a Jump-Scare moment. This not only increases the character of the character, but also your own pulse skims. The first few moments of fright in particular are impressive, but even later, if you know it, the short, fast adrenaline spurts remain. Remember that it is more varied and surprising to you than evil, the more fun for everyone involved.
Pure fan service!
In addition to this main mode, which can also be played alone against computer -controlled opponents, there are also the missions. However, this is not a real campaign. Instead, you will experience some of the best-known scenes from the three films and the TV series. If you complete the sometimes very crisp missions (there are no checkpoints!) Successfully, you can unlock new characters for survivors, skins and a little lore. This is where one of the big plus points of Evil Dead - The Game. The title is a prime example of fan service. Friends of the franchise recognize elements from other media at all corners and ends. Be it the weapons such as the "magic wand", Sam Raimi's car, well-known buildings, the exaggerated use of gore effects, obsessed trees or the movement sequence if you play as evil. You have the feeling that the developers have stuffed everything that is somehow associated with the films.
atmospheric through the night
Visually, Evil Dead-The Game is currently the prettiest asymmetrical multiplayer horror game. It may not set new standards, but the developers have captured the mood of the films excellently. Depending on the weather, the maps look different and in connection with the successful game of light and shadow quickly comes up with scary mood. This is skillfully accompanied by the music. In addition, the original spokesman and sometimes really disgusting sound effects come when, for example, a head is sprayed effectively over the screen. If you know and like the films, you will feel at home immediately.
Conclusion:
Evil Dead - The Game does nothing exceptionally different from the competition. But it is a fresh approach for the genre. Anyone who has missed the "Evil Dead" brand so far can now experience a few entertaining adventures as an Ash and Co. In particular, the focus on the details and the associated fan service are a lot of fun. The game mechanics, on the other hand, is known standard food. The developers have had a few interesting ideas for the tasks and the game world. It's just a shame that they are always sought down according to sample f. Long -term motivation would increase a few more options for the survivors. But even so fans will have a lot of fun. It takes a few hours until all characters were revoked and every secret was developed.
